Meet Elaine Alaniz

Elaine Alaniz believes leadership begins with service. Long before running for office, Elaine built her life around helping people navigate crisis, rebuild stability, and reconnect to opportunity. Her work has taken her from church outreach and nonprofit service to emergency response and federal disaster recovery efforts, always focused on meeting people where they are and helping them move forward.

After moving to Los Angeles in 2003, Elaine found a church community that shaped her commitment to faith, service, and responsibility to others. What began as volunteer work quickly grew into a calling to serve families and individuals facing difficult circumstances. Elaine trained and served with the City of Los Angeles Mayor’s Crisis Response Team, responding to 911 incidents across the city to support survivors of tragedy and help families access resources during their most difficult moments. That experience gave her a firsthand understanding of the challenges many communities face, including the devastating impact of addiction, crime, and economic instability.

Today Elaine works in a federal role focused on disaster recovery and economic resilience, helping communities and small businesses access the resources needed to rebuild after catastrophic events. Her work requires coordinating across agencies, engaging local leaders, and ensuring that recovery efforts reach the people who need them most. Elaine also serves as President of the Westlake North Neighborhood Council, where she has worked to strengthen partnerships between residents, nonprofits, public safety officials, and government agencies while maintaining responsible stewardship of taxpayer funded community resources. Through these experiences, Elaine has seen both the strengths and failures of government systems. She believes government must be accountable, solutions focused, and responsible with public funds.

Communities across Los Angeles County are facing serious challenges. The fentanyl crisis is devastating families. Homelessness programs are consuming billions in taxpayer dollars with too little measurable progress. Small businesses and working families are being asked to carry a growing financial burden while government spending continues to expand. Elaine believes leadership means asking hard questions and demanding results. Her approach is straightforward. Protect communities from the growing fentanyl crisis. Restore accountability to homelessness programs by ensuring taxpayer dollars are tied to measurable outcomes that help people transition back into stability and independence. Support small businesses and economic opportunity. And manage public resources responsibly so families are not forced to shoulder ever increasing tax burdens.

Elaine brings a rare perspective to leadership. She has worked on the ground with communities in crisis, served in local civic leadership, and understands how government systems operate behind the scenes. Her goal is simple, strengthen the foundations that allow communities to grow, restore trust in responsible governance, and ensure that opportunity remains within reach for the families who call Los Angeles County home.

Guided by faith and a commitment to service, Elaine Alaniz is running to bring practical leadership, accountability, and renewed hope to the communities she serves.

Service and Accomplishments

Serving others has never been optional in my life. My faith has shaped my calling to step forward where help is needed, whether responding to emergencies, supporting local families, or strengthening communities across Los Angeles and beyond.

Community Leadership and Local Service

Community Board Leadership and Volunteer Service | 2019 – Present

For years I have served as a volunteer board member in my community, helping guide local initiatives that strengthen neighborhoods and support families. Beginning in a financial oversight role and later serving in leadership, I worked closely with nonprofits, community partners, and residents to direct community resources toward programs that improve safety, opportunity, and quality of life.

Through collaboration and accountability, we helped support neighborhood projects, local outreach efforts, and partnerships that bring practical resources directly to the people who need them most.

Disaster Response and Emergency Operations

United States Small Business Administration
Office of Disaster Recovery and Resilience

Serving with the federal disaster recovery mission has allowed me to work directly with communities during some of their most difficult moments. This work focuses on helping families, small businesses, and local economies recover after disasters by coordinating outreach, resources, and recovery assistance.

Through this role, I have worked alongside local governments, community organizations, chambers of commerce, and faith based partners to ensure communities have access to recovery programs and the tools they need to rebuild stronger.

Emergency Response Operations | California Emergency Medical and Disaster Teams

At the start of the pandemic, I volunteered to assist with emergency medical response efforts. My service quickly expanded into a leadership role coordinating logistics and operational support for medical sites, vaccine distribution, and fire response deployments throughout the emergency.

This experience strengthened my ability to lead in high pressure environments, manage complex operations, and support communities during times of crisis.

Community Crisis Response

Volunteer Incident Response Team Member

In recognition of sustained volunteer service responding to community incidents and supporting residents during times of crisis, I was honored with the Presidential Volunteer Service Award (Silver Level) for completing over forty hours of monthly incident response support.

Mentorship and Youth Development

Young Storytellers Mentor

I worked one on one with at risk students, helping them write and develop original stage plays while collaborating with actors and directors to bring their stories to life. Mentorship programs like these give young people the confidence to express themselves and see new possibilities for their future.

Service, Leadership, and Real-World Experience

Much of Elaine Alaniz’s life experience has been shaped by working directly with people during moments of challenge, transition, and recovery. These experiences have provided her with a practical understanding of how communities function, how government systems operate, and where improvements are needed to better serve residents. After moving to California in 2003, Elaine built her life in Los Angeles while pursuing opportunities in the creative industry. During those early years she became deeply involved in her church community, where she developed a strong commitment to serving others and supporting families facing difficult circumstances. Through volunteer work with community organizations, Elaine helped connect women and families in crisis with essential resources including housing assistance, food, clothing, and counseling services. These experiences strengthened her understanding of how community organizations, faith based institutions, and local service providers work together to support vulnerable populations. Over time, Elaine’s commitment to service expanded into crisis response and community support during emergency situations.

Crisis Response and Disaster Recovery Experience

Elaine completed academy training and served as a volunteer with the Mayor’s Crisis Response Team, where she worked alongside first responders to provide support and resources to individuals and families impacted by critical incidents. Through this work, she gained firsthand experience assisting residents during some of the most difficult moments of their lives, including emergencies and traumatic events. These experiences reinforced the importance of coordination between public safety agencies, community organizations, and government departments when responding to crises. Her continued work in disaster response and recovery efforts has further strengthened her understanding of how government agencies, emergency services, and community partners collaborate to help communities recover and rebuild after disasters. This experience has given Elaine valuable insight into how county programs, emergency response systems, and recovery resources can be better coordinated to serve residents more effectively.

Community Leadership and Fiscal Responsibility

Elaine also serves as a board member of the Westlake North Neighborhood Council, where she has helped strengthen partnerships between community organizations, residents, and local government. After joining the council in 2019, she stepped into the role of Treasurer, where she was responsible for overseeing community funds and ensuring responsible budgeting practices. In this role she worked closely with local organizations to direct funding toward community projects and programs that benefit residents throughout the district. She later accepted the role of President, where she has continued building relationships between nonprofits, public service agencies, and community leaders to expand resources and improve coordination for residents in need. This experience has provided Elaine with hands-on knowledge of budgeting, community engagement, and collaborative problem solving.

Prepared to Serve District 1
